Thanks! It is a nice shot. It had a lot of old power. It is hard to tell what you will sometimes see on grain trains in the area...

A few shots of mine over the years. Nothing great, but enjoy!

A sextet of CSX power, nearly equaling the length of the string of cars in tow, heads south of Williamstown, WV with an SD40-2 leading the group in February, 2006.

Image

A southbound (railroad westbound) Q317 rolls through St. Marys, WV on a December 9th day as the snow flies during the height of holiday season, 2005.

Image

On an usually warm February 7th morning (2006) the Spirit of Brunswick (a CSX AC44CW) leads Q317 south as it glides past the Williamstown, WV Depot just before it hits the Williamstown Bridge crossing. In just a few minutes this train will be entering the Parkersburg Low Yard.

Image

CSX Q317, led by CSX CW40-8 #7699, readies for its final approach before entering Second Street in St. Marys, WV on a bright and warm April 27th (2006) morning.

Image

Here we are looking just south of St. Marys' 2nd Street at the Bridge Street overpass (which has always been a timber structure), during a late winter snow; March 7th, 2006.

The Q296 again from the new bridge near Kearneysville, WV. That is the construction of new WV Route 9 in the background.

This is one of my all time favorite CSX photos:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=192451

It's on the old Western Maryland Thomas Sub, a line which has fascinated me for a number of years. It's great to see that there's still activity on the route, over 30 years after the WM was absorbed into Chessie.

Well, hello B&O Hendo! Long time no see! I see you came to ARF from Railfan.net as I did! Altho, I'm over there as well!
Nice shots of the SD-50! I'm going to kind of re-paint one of the 3 Chessie SD-50's I have into CSX, but haven't decided if I want it the Bright Future paint "YN2" or the Dark Future paint "YN3" yet so...... But one of the SD-50's on my roster is going to change slightly. PLUS with the Sd-50, I've got 2 SD-60's as well to do up in CSX, however the one is a regular spartan cab Sd-60, thats got the all gray body, with blue side sill and trucks and fuel tank, where as the other SD-60 I have is an SD-60I or an SD-60M, which depends on how I model the cab. So........ it will be in Bright Future or Dark Future, which again I have not yet decided on how I'm going to paint it.

Wade,
NICE shot too! Very interesting angle.......Almost looks like a well built model at the angle you took that picture from!

In any event, WELCOME to American Rails Forums, as your Moderator.... And hopefully helpfull with questions and the like in the future! Post away!

Indeed, Wade, very nice shot of the WM Thomas Sub. This was the original main line to Elkins, yes? I'm not too savvy on the WM.

Hey Hendo, what do you mean by "Draper Taper"? The radiator grills, or the yellow tapered nose to side sill? :D I mean, don't get me wrong here, I like my steam, but anyone that knows me to any extent knows this, but I do like the old diesel power too, but some of the new body lines of the diesels with the HUGE radiator grills as "wings" so to speak, are different and add something different to the whole modeling world so......

But in any event, I love the older body lines! Back then, there were so many different builders that they didn't have that "All looking the same" thing going on were now they all kinda have features that resemble one or the other so...... But the radiator wings are interesting looking.

The "Draper Taper" refers to the way on many new locomotives the front nose angles down away from the windows. It was invented (or designed) by a man named Draper- ergo, the "Draper Taper"! He came up with it as a way to enhance downward visibility from the modern wide cabs.
